IMPERIAL KLUB GOLF, JAKARTA

Last week I was in Jakarta on business mainly in Tangerang, Bekasi and Banten area and stayed at the Atlet Century Hotel in Senayan, close to the Senayan driving range and Senayan Golf Club but did not visit them. Traffic in Jakarta was worse and usually take 1 hour to travel 12 km within the city. Traveling from Jakarta Utara to Jakarta Selatan easily take 2 hours, so if you are visiting Jakarta make sure you stay at the right location for your objective, Golf and Entertainment? Better stay in North Jakarta.

However I like this hotel because it is located near to malls namely the Senayan Plaza, Senayan city and the FX Lifestyle centre. My group stayed at the Atlet Floor for USD 112 and get access to the lounge at 16th Floor where we spent our time after work and enjoyed free flowing drinks and local delicacies.

We rented Mizuno Finalist golf set at the Pro-Shop for IDR 150,000 and paid Green fees IDR 498,000 inclusive of carts and caddies. Since I have played this course in May this year, a local knowledge helped a little bit and both my fellow golfers scored aboved 100 and I managed to keep the score at 94 despite having two triple bogeys. The best deal came at Hole number 4 and number 17 when I got birdies! At number 4 where I used 5 wood to tee off for about 170 meters left me with a shot for 80 meters and I used a AW to put it to about 4 feet from the pin and made the put. At Hole 17 I used a 3 wood to hit it 180 meters to about 3 feet from the pin and made the put...the score could have been better if not for the triple bogeys at the Index 1 (2nd hole) and Index 2 (18th hole) holes!

Beautiful golf course, beautiful and friendly caddies, great food and not so great golf..3 out of 4,who's complaining!

Mr.Lim wanted a re-match at Bukit Banang Golf Club, he bought a new Mizuno JPX 800 NSPRO 950 shaft at the Golf House in Senayan Plaza for IDR 4,790,000 and got further 10% discount using Maybank BII card, it was a real steal...
Until we meet again in Batu Pahat...

GOLFING IN OCTOBER

Golfing in October have been hampered by rain as morning sessions and afternoon session suffered the same fate. I had a tournaments at Glenmarie GCC that started at 2.45 pm and played the last 3 holes under lights. It was a discouraging finish as I played the last 3 holes in 5 over par. Never the less I still managed a decent score of 36 stableford points came out Third in the C Medal (handicap 21 to 24). The price was a AEON vouchers worth RM 550  and a dozen Srixon soft feel balls, not bad.
The following Saturday I played at Kelab Golf Perhidmatan Awam or KGPA with Saiful Nizam, Abang Mokh. and another whom I forgot the name. The following Saturday I played with Saiful, Mokhtar Dawam and Lotfi at KGPA and followed that with a Sunday game at Bukit Beruntung GC with Azmi, Mat and Harun. The BBGC episode was a wet ones as we were the only flight that managed to complete 18 holes, most other flights could only muster 11 to 13 holes. There were small tournaments too from TNB and MPK, I guess they would give prizes by having lucky draws.

Next week I will be going to Yangon, Myanmar on a working visit. I am seriously consider extending my stay over the weekends to play a few round of golf with my golf buddies in Yangon, U Barber Cho and Kyi Seng. Hope Myanmar has a nice golfing weather!

BUKIT BERUNTUNG GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB

We booked this course on Monday due to heavy booking and limited number of buggies available at the club. Before the game, scheduled for 0800hrs. tee-off we usually have our breakfast at nearby Mamak Restaurant Salam1 which is 5 minutes away from the club. Myself, Mokhtar, Munir, Vijay and Kheiruddin have the usual half-cooked eggs with roti canai for breakfast while Yusuf and the other two guys were already at the club.
Mokhtar, Vijay, Kheiruddin, Munir, Yusuf, Zahrin, Shukor, me..

AGSSG members paid RM52 each plus compulsory caddy at RM43 meaning additional RM11 each and guests paid RM102 plus shared caddy fee. We teed off at about 0900hrs at the East Course or popularly known as the championship course.

Hole 1 is a Par 5 measuring 466 meter from blue tee and can easily be reached in 3 shots but nobody made par. Hole 2 is a Par 3 172 meters, myself and Mokhtar made par, he used 5 wood and I used 3 wood. Hole 3 is a short Par 4 measuring 283 meters and I made par. The 4th hole Par 3 was well taken, everybody had par putt between 12 feet to 5 feet but all missed! Hole 5 is also a short Par 4 at 311 meter but nobody made par, Mokhtar ended up with 8 after his tee-shot went astray! Two of my flight mates made par on the Par 5 6th hole and I made double par on the next hole when my lay-up dropped into the water! I made par on the next hole a short Par 4 at 328 meters and made double bogey on the last hole, a index 1 par 4.

At the back nine Zahrin made 2 birdies and and 4 pars and 3 bogeys, like a touring pro scorecard scoring 37! I got 3 pars, 4 bogeys and 2 double bogeys for a 44! Munir showed his scorecard during tea-time at the club and he scored 37+43 for a 80 gross! his form must have came back to score this good!

Zahrin in action with his new Cobra AMP driver..
Mr Shukor from Kementerian Pertanian did not play to his level best today...

Score for the day - 29th  September 2012:

Happy golfing...

BERJAYA HILLS GOLF CLUB

Berjaya Hills Golf Club has done well to maintain the fairways and greens to a pleasurable playing condition and this were the opinions of Mr Toh (16), Samsudin (18), Bangdolah (18) and Nordin Bren (24) when they played the course last week.

Played from the 10th Tee as there were a few beginners flight waiting in queue at the 1st Tee box, it was indeed a test of character for the hilly undulating fairways, it was too much for us and 45 was the best score. I have played this course many times and local knowledge proved to be crucial and played 46 and 48 for a respectable 94 score, Mr. Toh and Samsudin played 95 and Nordin Bren surrendered to a 115 gross and many lost balls too!

Guests staying at Colmar paid RM88 where as AGSSG members has to make prior booking for discounted rate of RM 98 per person and require booking through AGSSG 3 working days in advance!
Samsudin asked for stroke from Mr Toh and got 2 and he got 7 pars to Mr Toh's 3 pars...finally Samsudin won only 1 ball because he lost the last hole! Nordin Bren lost in all 3 sectors in the sixes game and suffered 11 lost holes so he paid tips to the lovely caddy...
SH Toh (16), Shamsudin (18B), Dolah (18), Nordin (24)

Looking forward to my next game at Tasik Puteri on Sunday!

Our group played Rancamaya Golf and Country Club on the third day, situated at western Jakarta the course was beautiful to say the least. This was also the day when a demo plane from Russia went missing and later it was determined that it crashed at Mount Salak. All day long the news was on television and the people in Indonesia proposed many theories why the plane went down but we are not going to discuss them here, after all this is a golf blog. We have a nice view of Mount Salak from the course and from most of the tee box.

The trip from Sparks Hotel at Mangga Besar, Jakarta to the golf course took more than an hour so golfers were getting restless in the bus and I kept checking our progress with Google Maps that tell you the approximate distance and time to the destination. I would propose to our organizer to stay in Bogor when playing Bogor golf courses and stay in Jakarta when playing Jakarta courses.

Our organizer YM Raja Razak (Hcp 18)

We played in the morning at about 11 am that day. At the first tee  we all could see the magnificent view on Mount Salak, it felt so near due to the size of the mountain. After playing several holes we were pleasantly surprised and hypnotized by the magnificent view and the extraordinary contour of the course itself. The course itself was quite challenging but playable. We all played from the Blue tee and sometimes you would get a blind tee shot or blind approach.

We had spent our four hours and 18 holes of golf there, then we proceed to have dinner at the local Restaurant Padang on the way to our hotel.

I played quite well at Rancamaya Golf Club ans scored 1 under net and a small daily prize allocation, enough to pay for a 1 hour foot massage. At the end of the day I was second in the overall Order of Merit which was pretty good but then due to the slow pace of play I spent more time with the pretty caddies...

A lot of them caddies are undergraduates at local Universities and some spoke decent English, no wonder they looked tired and sleepy too! Lack of sleep perhaps for whatever reason.

This happy man got a caddy that looks like our Malaysian Singer Sheila H, people told me they held hands coming out of the bunker, no need to guess about his golf score...nevertheless he was my schoolmate at the boarding school in Ipoh.

When playing Jakarta golf course avoid playing weekends, there is a GOLF LEVY of IDR 1,000,000 for visitors...or non-members!

IMPERIAL GOLF KLUB JAKARTA

 Imperial Klub Golf
2709 Jl. Pulau Golf 2700
Lippo Karawaci
Tangerang
 6221 546 0120

For the fourth day our group chose the impressive Imperial Golf Klub, created by British designer, Desmond Muirhead. The Club's 6,429-metre, 18-hole championship golf course has been constructed to blend essential Indonesian images into 'a large conceptual sculpture' with each hole having its own identity, name and individuality. Those who are used to playing golf on a flat course will be challenged to experience the difference  golf course but what attracted me what the scenic view and the undulating golf fairways and landscape which made finding even lies almost impossible and thus the difficulty in executing the desired shot and good score is a rarity.

Imperial Klub Golf, a first-class public golfing facility, has been created as the central point of the Lippo Karawaci Satelite town,500 hectare development that provides a complete lifestyle in a friendly resort environment. The distinct challenges make the course enjoyable for all levels of golfers.

Current golf rates for 2012 are as follows but we got better rates through golf travel agents. This trip was made possible through the services of Liberty Golf Services based in Kuala Lumpur. http://www.libertygolf.com.my/

When golfers from Malaysia went to Jakarta they loved to play at Imperial Golf Klub not just for the split fairways and island greens but for the sheer beauty and the panoramic views of the course.
I was grouped in the flight of Champions comprising the top four in the order of merit for the previous cumulative three days score and I was second with 2 over net just three strokes behind the leader. Immediately one of my flight mates requested to play big money which I did not like but had to follow to avoid sour faces. Me and my partner are handicap 18 and 15 respectively and our opponents are handicap 18 and 14 and no strokes given. This would mean that the 15 handicapper would play against the 14 handicapper while 18 handicapper would not contribute much without strokes handicap. My partner and I lost the first nine 1 ball and the second nine 3 balls, 1 ball was worth RM20.

As a result of this matchplay situation my play was dictated by my partner as opposed to my own sense and course management which made play was no longer fun till the end and eventually I lost RM80.00. Nevertheless I made IDR 400,000 in prizes for that day and that sort of covered up the loss.

Golf was great and the Nasi with Bebek Goreng was even better! Below is my room-mates at the Sparks Hotel, Jakarta at Mangga Besar enjoying his lunch, Mr. Fazli!
I heard the group is organizing another outing to Bangkok, Thailand just before Ramadhan (4-8 July, 2012) playing at Vintage Golf Club, Lotus Valley and Best Ocean Golf Club.

Golfing in Jakarta again? Yes..there are so many good golf courses there for our taking !

9 May 2012 - celebrating my 58th birthday in Jakarta, Indonesia and thanking all friends well wishers on FB and SMS who remembered and thanking wife and sons for the wishes and office-mates in MTC Kuala Lumpur. The group played Pondok Indah Golf Course, a beautiful course located at the Pondok Indah residency. The location of  course is within distance from any  part of Jakarta. It is around 30 minutes from the Jakarta Business District , located in the center of Premium Residence and Commercial Area as part of the premium complexes of business and residences' Located at the South of Jakarta, Pondok Indah Golf Course is about 45 minutes from Jakarta International Airport, Soekarno-Hatta and 1o km from the local business district. Also, it is within walking distance from the well known Pondok Indah Mall 1 & 2 and 5 minutes drive from Pondok Indah Hospital. But then, nobody went to the mall and the hospital. You may be tempted to buy a property here!!

With Bpk Johny, Azmi, Norazam and Ali

The second day pairing was decided by the organizing committee and I played with Bpk. Azmi who was having a very bad cough and nasal infection. Bpk Azmi was sick ever since we reached Jakarta but he decided to play anyway. I played with Ghazali and Norazam to complete the foursome.

The Ikan Game - Introduced to me by Ghazali while playing at the KLGCC, this game required each player to deposit RM 50 to the pool manager. We played for RM (maximum damage) some people play for more! So the pool was RM 200 or IDR 588,000. For every hole there must be one outright winner to collect one Ikan which means the first Ikan was worth RM 200, the second was worth RM 100 and fourth Ikan would be worth RM 50 (RM 200/4 Ikan). Myself and Ghazali ended up with 1 Ikan worth RM18 so we lost RM32. Azmi got 2 Ikan worth RM36 and Norazam got the most, 7 Ikan worth RM 126.

Where is my caddy?
The most difficult hole on the golf course was the Par 3 8th hole measuring 220 yards from the Blue Tee Box. All my flight mates got bogie but my room-mates Bpk. Fazdli told me that he got 9 on this hole! His golf ball went into the bunkers twice and he managed to put the ball 6th on and then three putted!

Nice wide fairways..
Today I scored 94...can't really concentrate on golf!!
